who actually
designed the well-known glass bottle of PEPSI-COLA, on behalf of the
multinational company.
When
in high-school, the young artist moved with her family to Italy, because
of her father’s profession as a military attache, her family travelled
often and for long intervals. During these travels, young Efi constantly
observed the natural landscape and all the different people with their
different needs.
With all these alternate pictures whilst travelling, she started shaping
a sort of a ‘nomad’ poetic view of this ‘union of mixed tribes’ that
was demanding unity more than anything, among all the differences, meaning
the potentiality for ‘agreement’ of each person or tribe, big or small,
to co-exist at all levels, without loosing their personal identity.
Nowadays, this folklore testimony of the artist’s child soul, is intensely
imprinted in her various art works, picturing unique species of the
animal kingdom not necessarily belonging to any familiar group, but
in the end forming an extraordinary combination, with real characteristics
from animals and birds.
The sheer result of this is a completely innovating and fresh view in
the field of artistic compilation of features, usually done in other
cases, just with characterless beings. Her art is a poetic approach
of an animal & nature study along with fantasy, made with harmony
and grace.
Beyond acknowledging our natural heritage, the final result for us is
to be shown a way to explore how the apparently incompatible particulars
can successfully co-exist.
These works of art are also constituted of a personal life-theory, childhood
sensibility and affection for animals.
In Rome, Efi Beghni remained for three years, graduating the Italian
high school, Caterina Cittadini.
At the age of 13 she took porcelain drawing lessons at Mrs Margherita
Viola Galloni’s workshop, where she created some of her first art works.
Ever since the abstract picturesque drive for fine arts has been shaped
and concentrated on porcelain drawing exclusively.
Returning to Greece, the now mind-settled artist worked at times in
drawing workshops, such as ceramic workshops along with attending lots
of different drawing lessons next to exceptional art creators such as
the painter Fernando Fennes.
In later years she attended various skilled and modern techniques in
porcelain and glass drawing seminars, such as those delivered by professors
Ms Antoinette Scherrer and Andreas Knobl, at Mrs Marilena Patronicola’s
school.
At her workshop, where today is her natural, daily environment, the
experienced artist ‘brings to life’ mostly nature themes. Each part
is unique; no matter how many times the specific theme is repeated.
This happens as handcrafted art is not mechanical, nor a cold procedure.
In each and every piece, there is a real deposit of soul, piece of psyche
and personal statement to icon all her love, passion and dedication
to this delicate process of designing, colour mixing and scorching the
porcelain.
The story,
just like any other romance, sounds more or less recognizable… the lustrous
beauty of fine white porcelain falls in deep love for colour… and the
eventual creation that is born is the genuine child of a passionate
love. Not so much a plain piece of porcelain, but a brand new object,
a fresh creation, so distinct!
